Referee Information
- You will be
contacted via e-mail each week (Tuesday or Wednesday) with
the Referee schedule for the upcoming Saturday. Schedules will
also be posted on the website.
- Acknowledge that you can make your assignments by replying to the e-mail.
- It is your responsibility to contact me via e-mail or phone if you cannot make your assignments.
- Come to
your game early (about 15 minutes) with all your
equipment needed for your game. Referees
not having all the equipment may lose the assignment.
- Center – whistle, cards, pen or pencil, watch.
- Assistant – flags, watch (if available).
- When you arrive, verify your assignments on the schedule – they could be changed. Calculate the pay you would get and ask myself, the Board Member of the Day or a designated Adult Ref (referred to as the “Head Ref”) for your fees. Initial the schedule as you get paid.
- Prior to
your assignment, check your uniform appearance.
- Shirt tucked in, collar straight, socks pulled up and even, badge attached to shirt
- Game sheet and game ball in hand.
- Equipment in hand – whistle, watch, flag, etc
- Enter the field formally – Assistants flanking the Center, flags rolled up and down to the side. Come off the field the same way – Centers wait for the other Assistant.
- If you wish to play between assignments, remove your Ref shirt and pull down or remove your socks.
- If you wish to not do an assignment during the day, you may ask another Ref to take your game and pay him/her the fee. Do not give the game to another Ref unless you have gotten permission from the Head Ref. If you cannot find a replacement you must do the game.
- If you have problems with a Parent or Coach, look for the Head Ref at halftime to help you with the situation. If a Coach/Parent is still not satisfied after the game you could have the Coach/Parent talk to the Adult Ref if desired. Write down any comments about any Coach, Parent or player on the game sheet.
- Good assignments are determined by how you look and conduct yourself on and off the field. Coming to assignments late also count against you for getting good assignments. Other considerations are how many games you have done during the season.
